Julia Lutnear

Lewis Lutnear’s spouse and the mother of Josephine Lutnear. A clearsighted woman, she has little trust for Jack Halloway and the misogyny and selfishness he represents.

Lewis Lutnear

Lewis Lutnear is the Mayor of Utopia on the moon Aetna. As such, he is the de facto leader of the whole moon, including its orbital.

He is Jack Halloway’s boss and also the father of Josephine Lutnear.

Lewis is a kind man who has a sincere and jovial way. He’s a bit pretentious and likes to stand on ceremony. It makes him a good fit for the small lazy town. After all, he like most of the residents came here to get away from the cutthroat corporate lifestyle of the large cities and systems.

Lutnear is one of the main benefactors of Jack’s smuggling as Jack keeps him happy to keep his own position safe.

Jack Halloway

On the surface, Jack Halloway is the Unity Corporation station manager for the 10,000 person station placed near the small moon Aetna in the Sicily system.

Jack is also the largest non-syndicated smuggler of consumer products in Unity space. Almost singlehandedly he makes the lives of the 60,000 people on Atnea measurably better. As a result Jack has money to spare.

Jack is also a misogynist who has little room in his life for anyone but himself.

CEO Gerald Cowhill

The Chief Executive Officer and the Chairman of the Board of the Unity Corporation. He is responsible for promoting Timothy Randall to Executive Vice President and removing him from the board of directors. At the suggestion of the military he appointed Randall to direct operations on the insignificant moon Aetna.

Benjamin MacDonald

Benjamin MacDonald was Director Timothy Randal’s procurement officer before Jack Halloway.

Colonel Andrew Gunderson

Andrew (Andy) Gunderson is Director Timothy Randall’s head of security. Nominally part of the Human Resources Department, Gunderson is technically Director Carla Savage’s, subordinate but he reports only to Randall himself.

The Catastrophe

A particularly bloody battle between the factions of the board of directors of the Unity Corporation in the year 239 CE. The conflict became so intense it nearly resulted in civil war and the breakup of the corporation.

Timothy Randall

Timothy Randall is a Vice President and former board member of the Unity Corporation. He is now the director of the small moon Aetna in the Sicily system.

Governenment

The Unity Corporation is a corporate state that has existed on Old Earth for over five hundred years. The Corporation started functioning as a state entity before the founding of the Pax Imperium. In fact the House of Athena forced the creation of the Pax Imperium as a superstructure of government over the Unity at the end of the [TK] war.

Although it has state powers, the Unity still functions as a corporation with every citizen forced to work as an employee. This form of government developed out of its mission as a public corporation which was to attain as much capital as possible for its shareholders. At the time of its ascendance the Unity and a few other corporate players recognized that holding state power was a means by which they could best further their mission. After a period of struggle the Unity became the sole victor and ruler of all of Old Earth. However, the mission had not changed, and the Unity already held many off-world companies and large tracts of real estate. Unity ambitions soon turned to consolidating the whole galaxy under its control. Its drive to control the galaxy was only checked when the Kingdom of Athena and other state entities fought a bloody war that ended with the creation of the Pax Imperium.

The Unity is nominally controlled by its citizens who are all supposedly shareholders of the corporation. In truth it is run by a small oligarchy known as the board of the Directors. Jockeying for position among the members of the board is a violent and often bloody affair. The winner of these affairs is often appointed as CEO of the corporation and chairman of the board of directors. The old fashioned notion that a corporate board of directors is to provide oversight to the management of the company has long disappeared as the two groups are often synonymous.

Carla Savage

Carla Savage is a Unity citizen with the rank of Director in the Human Resources Department. She is one of three key members of Vice President Timothy Randall’s inner circle when he takes his appointment on Aetna. She is also the first person to bring smuggler Jack Halloway to his attention.
