Duke Malek is the ruler of the Dukedom Galatia, and the only remaining vassel of King Nicholas of Athena. A distant cousin, it is well known that Malek covets the throne for his family.

Despite setbacks, such as the dangerous incident in the year 304 in which Malek was shown to be running weapons to rebels in the new Amsterdam Archipelago, Duke Malek remains a popular figure in some parts of the Kingdom of Athena.

Much of his wealth and power is created by the gate taxes he collects due to his dukedom’s proximity to the populated regions of the Pax Empire.

After the charges of weapons smuggling, tariffs suddenly appeared from all of Malek’s neighbors. It is a known secret that the House of Athena used its influence to create these tariffs in hopes of bringing the wayward Duke to heel. The Duke sued in Imperial court and ten years later the matter has finally worked its way through the system and is waiting adjudication by the Imperial Trade Minister. It is widely expected that the Duke will lose his case due to the King of Athena’s power in the Empire.

Stephen Athena is the crown prince of the Kingdom of Athena and older brother to Jonas Athena. If he were to ascend to the throne he would be King Stephen VI.
